Requirements
BSME minimum is required. Minimum 5 years experience. 3 - 5 years experience with 3-D solids CAD mandatory - Pro/Engineer or SolidWorks preferred. 2 - 5 years experience with electromechanical product development and design required.

Function
Identify, investigate and justify potential new product opportunities via end-user research. Develop concepts, benchmark competitive products, create designs, conduct analysis, create, test and analyze prototypes to prove feasibility. Working with established and new suppliers, carry new product designs through to production launch and establish engineering, production and quality specifications.

 

  1. Work with our established network of local electrical contractors to identify new mechanical and electromechanical product opportunities. Conduct ethnographic and other research to identify existing or emerging problems with their methods, tools, equipment, etc. Benchmark industry products as required.
  2. Develops product design solutions by completing design analysis and calculations, taking into consideration industry and regulatory standards (primarily UL); evaluating options; performing trade-off studies; selecting optimum solution; coordinating with suppliers. Develop 3-D CAD designs.
  3. Proves product design by developing test plans; revising design; conducting performance calculations; approving prototypes, advising assembly processes all within quality standards. Coordinate and manage field testing and evaluation as required.
  4. Work with existing supplier base to develop, design and manufacture new products. Develop new domestic and international suppliers in conjunction with Operations as required.
  5. Maintains product budget by tracking developmental costs; identifying probable product manufacturing costs; examining least-cost alternatives.
  6. Creates and maintains documentation by recording design, test and assembly procedures.
  7. Develops product literature by recording, interpreting, and explaining technical data and performance.
  8. Provides technical support by providing information and answers to other departments; offering solutions regarding warranty issues.
  9. Updates job knowledge by tracking product codes; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
